6-6-90 Fantasy & SF 7-5-90 Reject! Unsigned form letter.
9-14-90 Haunts 10-4-90 Reject! "Possibly salvageable with more work. Try a re-write. Pace of story was unacceptable -- too slow and labored. Also, at 8500 words, the piece exceeds our maximum word limit. Consider paring 1000-1500 words."
10-24-90 Haunts 11-21-90 Reject! Unsigned form letter. Didn't like the re-write, I guess. I tossed the clipped re-write and continued submitting the original version.
11-5-90 Hobson's Choice 1-22-91 Reject! "…The beginning is good, and the action continues at a brisk pace throughout … seems too much like the BEM stories of the forties and fifties … Please try us again with something else." Notice Hobson's Choice thought it had a "brisk pace" while Haunts thought it was "slow and labored."
1-15-91 The Leading Edge 4-23-91 Reject! Signed form letter and four student's critiques, very detailed and helpful. Two were rave reviews, one was positive with suggestions, and one thought it was "a little slow … characters weren't deep enough … and the ending was too simple."
4-29-91 Space and Time 5-8-91 Reject! "Sorry, we're just not buying anything at present."
5-24-91 Omni 7-7-91 Reject! Unsigned form letter.
7-8-91 New Destinies 9-21-92 Gave up. Never heard back from them.
11-27-92 Beyond SF&F 6-25-93 Reject! Unsigned form letter.
10-8-93 Leopard's Realm SF 2-14-94 Sold! "…we would like to publish it…" Yay!
